⚡️По просьбе Navigators публикую обучающий видеоролик по одной из самых основных и важных тем судовождения — SHIP STABILITY ⚓ 💬 Приятного просмотра и полезного обучения! 🔖Ship stability is the ability of a ship to return to its original upright position after it has been tilted by an external force. That force could be wind , waves , turning , uneven loading, or shifting cargo . In simple terms, ship stability means the ship's ability to maintain balance . If a ship tilts and then comes back upright, it is stable . 🔘If it tilts and cannot return properly or continues to lean further, then it may be unstable . This is why ship stability is one of the most important topics in ship design and marine safety . 🔖To understand stability, we first need to understand the two main forces acting on a floating ship. 🟢The first force is weight. The entire weight of the ship acts vertically downward through a point called the center of gravity, or as we call it, G. 🟢The second force is buoyancy. Buoyancy is the upward force exerted by water on the ship, and it acts through a point called the center of buoyancy, or B. 🔘So, the ship's weight acts downward through G, and the buoyant force acts upward through B . When the ship is floating upright, these two forces are aligned in the same vertical line, and the ship remains balanced . ❗️When a ship tilts, the underwater volume changes shape. Because of this, the center of buoyancy shifts sideways. The weight still acts downward through the center of gravity, but the buoyant force now acts upward through a new, shifted position of the center of buoyancy. This creates a turning effect . 🟢Depending on how these forces act, the ship may return upright, it can incline further, or may even turn upside down .
